Buckman Poetry Lab: Volume 1.0
Join Buckman Publishing at the new Buckman Building to celebrate poetry month! A suite of local poets they’ve published in previous books and journals will be reading in an informal, in-the-round style where the division between poet and listener dissolves. They’ll have snacks and drinks and readings from Andrew Doll, Edy Guy, Erinn Kathryn, Hazelle Lerum, Will A.C. Mulligan, Jaye Nasir, Rich Perin, and Carolyn Supinka. The reading portion will start around 7:30 with time to mingle before and after.
Ekphrastic Poetry Reading and Closing Reception
Ekphrasis comes from the Greek words ek (out) and phrásis (speak), literally speaking out. The Poetry Foundation defines an ekphrastic poem as a vivid description of a work of art. But ekphrasis is more than giving voice to the visual, more than mere description. Ekphrasis offers one’s voice in dialogue with another. In Ekphrasis: A PCC Faculty Exhibition, recent art from Portland Community College art faculty and lab techs is positioned in conversation, both with each other and with writing faculty (including our own Karah Kemmerly) who composed ekphrastic poems about the work.

On Saturday September 13, join the members of the Belmont Art Collective for an inaugural reading of poetry and fiction at Up Up Books! Featuring the work of Karolinn Fiscaletti, Karah Kemmerly, Carolyn Supinka, and Alex Terlecky.
Before the reading, come early to join BAC for a nature-inspired writing exercise at 5:30 at Up Up Books. Attendance is free, but seats are limited, so registration is required. We are accepting donations to be contributed to the Portland Immigrant Rights Coalition.
